Abstract

The objective was to investigate the prevalence and factors associated with the diagnosis of advanced breast cancer in women registered in the Hospital Registry of Cancer in Paraíba. This is a study developed with data obtained by the Hospital Cancer Registry of three hospitals in the State of Paraíba from the year 2010. To investigate the factors associated with the diagnosis of breast cancer at an advanced stage, Poisson regression was used. with robust variance. The prevalence of advanced diagnosis of breast cancer was observed in 43.24% (95%CI: 41.62 – 44.87). For the Poisson regression model, the predictive variables for advanced staging were age, family history of breast cancer, origin of referral, women referred without diagnosis and without treatment, and women with histological type of infiltrating ductal carcinoma. A high percentage of advanced staging was observed. Special attention and care should be given to young breast cancer patients with a family history of breast cancer. Factors related to access as the source of treatment are associated with stage III and IV breast cancer.
