Abstract

In recent years, we have witnessed a movement of businessmen entering politics. In this context, the purpose of this article is to analyze how business discourse is constructed in politics. For this, based on the Discourse Analysis method and theories about political discourse and business discourse, we analyzed five electoral programs and three television commercials of the political campaigns of brazilian businessman João Doria. The analysis indicated that linguistic marks that refer to the business discourse were incorporated into the candidate's electoral discourse, apprehended by the construction of values associated to the business mindset, such as success, leadership, intelligence, competence, moderation, altruism, responsibility, innovation and experience.
